If the Barbie movie has taught us anything, it’s that people love an immersive experience, and women are holding up the economy. Taylor Swift has seemingly got the memo and decided to join the club with her Eras Tour movie.
The Eras Tour
Taylor Swift’s wildly successful Eras Tour has taken the world by storm. Grossing insane numbers worldwide, if you were able to snag tickets you are considerably lucky. One thing that has made the tour so popular besides Swift’s fame and loyal fanbase, is the immersive experience that it provides. Concertgoers will dress up as their favorite Swift eras, funny puns, and more. They make friendship bracelets and exchange them all night long. They sing along to Swift’s songs at local bars before the gates open. It is truly an experience, speaking as someone who was able to attend myself.
Barbie Movie
Another immersive experience was the Barbie movie that came out in July. People of all ages dressed up in pink clothes, wore costumes, bought dolls, and more. People allowed themselves to let their inner child run wild and enjoy a full cinema experience. The billion-dollar record-breaking movie opened the eyes of many to a market that wasn’t properly catered to before. The market of movies for women, by women.
October 13
Swift seems to understand the concept of an immersive experience and understands what people will pay to feel good. Instead of releasing a tour film on streaming as she has in the past, releasing the film in theatres this October allows people to keep the Barbie nostalgia and unapologetic female joy alive, and allows fans to create hype over the film simply because of the experience it will provide. Swift tweeted about the film, ending her tweet with “…Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged…” And that says it all.
See you in the theatres! Or if sing-alongs aren’t your thing, maybe wait until it (probably) comes out on streaming.
